Lousewort, or Pericularis canadensis, is said to be named so because farmers used to believe their cattle would eat these, and it would result in a lice outbreak.  

Louse is singular of lice.  Wort means it has medicinal values. 

Their belief seems just a tale of misconstrued information because this plant actually helps remove lice.  It is also commonly called wood betony.
